Stephen Carter is the Group Chief Executive of Informa PLC, a leading Business Intelligence, Academic Publishing, Knowledge and B2B Events Group.

He joined Informa in 2010 as a Non-Executive Director before becoming Group Chief Executive in 2013.

Over the last nine years, the Group has expanded significantly in reach and scale, geographically (particularly in America and Asia) and in the deployment of technology and digital services. 

The Group's ambition is to champion specialists in B2B markets by building a range of dedicated products and service capabilities, often built out from large established B2B brands, research information brands or original research and advanced learning. 

In the private sector Stephen is a career senior executive, having held managing director and chief executive positions in a range of Media and Technology businesses before becoming Informa's Group CEO. 

Stephen also served as founding CEO of Ofcom, the UK’s communications competition regulator, Chief of Strategy to the UK Prime Minister, The Right Hon. Gordon Brown and was the first Minister for the Media and Telecommunications industry, where he wrote and published the Digital Britain Report. 

Stephen has served on a number of company Boards in the UK and US and currently serves on the Board of Vodafone Plc. In addition, he serves on the Board of the PA Media Group, (representing Informa's shareholding), is Chair of Monaco Yacht SAM (Informa's joint venture with the Principality of Monaco) and is Chair of charitable trust the Henley Festival.
