Medical relief effort for Haiti at Arab Health

A collection of medical supplies and equipment has been collected during Arab Health 2010 for the Haiti relief effort. Coordinated by IIR Middle East and GTech Medical Services LLC, the collection took place during the event (25-28 January) at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The initiative was supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Dubai.

Most of the 2700 exhibitors had shipped in medical equipment and supplies for display that would usually either be given away, thrown out or shipped back at great expense afterwards. Through leaflets, posters and dedicated drop-off points, IIR Middle East encouraged exhibitors during the course of the event to donate any unused or unwanted medical supplies for the Haiti relief efforts.

IIR Middle East coordinated with the event’s design company, Thomas Bennett, who provided the signage for the donations free of charge, and with one of the show's official freight forwarding companies, Airlink, who arranged the transportation of the medical supplies to Europe where onwards transportation would be coordinated to Port-au-Prince with international relief agencies.

As a result of efforts during the show, 2.5 pallet loads of medical equipment and supplies are making their way to the people who most need them in Haiti. The donations include bandages, sterile gauges, rubber gloves, syringes and other medical supplies.
