Informa’s Middle East Hospital Build Awards winners announced

Dubai, UAE: The winners for the 2013 Hospital Build Awards have been announced at the Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Exhibition & Congress, which is operated by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions and takes place from 3-5 June at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

As the healthcare industry thrives and grows there is a need to recognize and reward industry leaders and innovators. The judging panel examined more than 150 nominations submitted by healthcare facilities from around the Middle East region. 

The 5th Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Exhibition & Congress was officially inaugurated this morning by His Excellency Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah , Director General of Dubai Municipality, who was accompanied by senior government officials and representatives from the organisers, Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions.

Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East is where top-level decision makers from the Middle East’s healthcare construction and management industry network with more than 160 key exhibitors in the field. With an estimated 6300 visitors over the three-day exhibition and congress, Hospital Build & Infrastructure continues to attract players in hospital planning, design, construction, operations, management, supply and refurbishment.

The winners for the five awards categories are as follows; Best Hospital Design (Built) – HMC PET CT Center, Qatar; Best Hospital Design (Future) -  King Khalid Medical City Project, KSA; Best Physical Environment – Ruwais Hospital Division – ADNOC, UAE; Best Sustainable Hospital Project –Zulekha Hospitals, UAE; Best Technology Initiative Award - Karl Storz, Germany; Best Healing Environment – Clemenceau Medical Center, Lebanon.

According to judge Karen Reno, Consultant, Joint Commission Resources, Inc., “This is my second year to review the submissions for Hospital Build & Infrastructure Awards.   This year marked a significant increase in tangible evidence provided in the submissions of how the built environment has impacted quality and safe patient care.  This information is crucial to our work in designing and operating healthcare facilities of the future.”

For the Best Technology Initiative category, the judges looked at how the facility utilises a new technology to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce treatment times and to make the overall patient experience more pleasant.
