Informa PLC wins ‘Green Apple’ Award

Informa has won an environmental award for best practice for its annual Green Week activities.  The Green Apple Awards highlight companies that enhance and support the environment.

The judges were particularly impressed with the way that Informa’s Green Week unifies employees, despite the fact that the company’s many businesses work across many regions of the world which makes communicating and awareness-raising a challenge.

Green Week sparked innovation and awareness among a very large majority of the employees, from India to Australia to the UK and the US. The feat is even more impressive as Informa’s 8000 employees work in business types as diverse as conference production, training to publishing, so Green Week provided a united platform to act on environmental issues, as well as the freedom to apply the knowledge innovatively at a local and business level no matter which of the 40 countries they are based.

The premise behind the Green Apple awards is to recognise good behaviour on environmental issues and give organisations the opportunity to share best practice with one another.

Keith Brownlie, Group HR and CR director, commented,  “Although there isn’t an obvious commonality between Informa’s very distinct and global brands, nothing else has captured the collective imagination of staff in quite the same way as Global Green Week.   What’s more, Green Week, the launch pad for Going Green, has, for the first time, enabled us to capture a truly global snapshot of Informa’s environmental footprint.”

As part of Going Green, thanks to the Energy Saving Competition and engagement with global Facilities’ Managers, Informa extended the global coverage of building energy use in its annual reporting from 29% to 59%.

Brownlie continued, “Over the course of a week, united by the competitive energy of all our staff, we learnt more about each other’s businesses than we could have ever expected, whilst also doing what we do best; having fun and being creative.

“Winning awards is not what our Corporate Responsibility programme is all about, but the recognition of knowing we are having an impact goes a long way to fuel our enthusiasm and determination.  A big pat on the back for everyone who got involved.”
