Greek Shipping Awards enjoy huge success

Informa Australia finished the year off with a bang with the spectacular Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards held in Athens, Greece on 12 December 2010.

Just under 1,000 people attended the seventh annual awards event held at the Athenaeum Intercontinental with guests from the UK, many parts of Europe, Middle East, Asia and the USA amongst the audience.

Despite the economic woes of Greece, the event was a sponsorship and virtual crowd sell out which can be seen as a testimony to the continuing prestige of the world’s largest shipping awards event.

This year the audience enjoyed a performance by Fotini Darra, a household name in the Greece entertainment business who is the same performer who sang the opening song at Eurovision Song Contest when it was hosted in Athens in 2006.

Not only did Darra entertain with her spectacular voice but she also co-hosted the entire presentation of awards with Master of Ceremonies, Nigel Lowry.

Since the event, the organisers have been flooded with messages of congratulations from patrons and sponsors, describing the re-vamped event as the best ever.

Event producer, Peter Attwater, paid tribute to his three-person team which has driven the event since its inception in 2004; Nigel Lowry, event director, Janet Wood, sponsorship sales and Shelagh Ingledow, administration and production.

“They are an incredible team and the fact that event keeps raising the bar is testament to their commitment and professionalism,” commented Mr Attwater.
