Informa’s science-based commitments and targets

In 2018, Informa joined over 500 other leading businesses by becoming part of the Science Based Target Initiative.

This initiative is a partnership between the United Nations, Worldwide Fund for Nature, World Resources Institute and Carbon Disclosure Project. It was founded on the belief that companies play an important role in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, and that setting targets and commitments can also be a source of competitive advantage for businesses.

Under the Science Based Target Initiative, participants are asked to set targets according to what their business should achieve, by 2030, that would contribute to keeping global temperature rises below 1.5°C.

At Informa, we have committed to halving absolute carbon emissions from our electricity and fuel use and reducing controllable emissions from the supply chain by 20% by 2030.

We believe these are ambitious targets but also achievable, by continuing to focus on energy efficiency in our operations and supply chain, particularly through engaging with partners such as venues, stand contractors and logistics providers. Where possible, we hope to explore how these initiatives can also create cost savings that can be reinvested into the business’s overall environmental performance.

These two commitments have been certified by the Science-Based Targets Institute using our performance in 2017 as a baseline.
