Informa Exhibitions launches SHD Logistics Awards

The publisher of SHD Magazine and www.SHDLogistics.com, Informa Exhibitions, has announced the staging of an exciting new venture in March 2014.

The SHD Logistics Awards will be a prestigious event to recognise and reward the very best companies within the intralogistics, logistics and supply chain sectors.

Held at the glamorous Park Lane Hotel on Thursday 20th March 2014, with an expected audience of over 350 guests, the black tie event is set to become an annual fixture on the calendar where the logistics industry can meet to network whilst celebrating a year’s hard work.

Rob Fisher, director of Informa Exhibitions’ Materials Handling Group, said: “We’ve been formulating plans for an awards event for some time, and now feel that the time is right to launch it. We have a vibrant industry that isn’t always great at shouting about its skills and success. We hope to provide a high-profile opportunity for companies to now do this and demonstrate their capabilities to a wide audience, including their peers.”

Diverse categories

The logistics industry is worth in excess of £93bn to the UK economy. Employing some 2.3m people across 196,000 companies, this is a sector where optimising operations is paramount and the “best in class” needs to be celebrated. The awards categories have been formulated to reflect the diversity of sectors within the industry, as follows:

•Environment/Sustainability
•Innovation
•Improvement
•Safety Implementation
•Corporate Responsibility
•New/Start-Up Facility
•CapEx
•Multimodal
•Warehouse Efficiency
•Operations (SME)
•Operations (Large)
•Editor’s Award
•Overall Winner

The SHD Logistics Awards have already attracted category sponsorship from two of the UK logistics industry’s leading names. The Multimodal category is sponsored by Potter Logistics Ltd. Potter’s managing director, Matthew Lamb, comments: “Potter Logistics is proud to sponsor the Multimodal category of the inaugural SHD Logistics Awards 2014. With the additional port rail freight terminals (RFT) at Felixstowe, London Gateway and Liverpool 2 and the proposed inland RFT’s similar to our own at Selby, Knowsley and Ely, we believe rail freight will play an even stronger role in UK transport.”

In addition, Toyota Material Handling UK is sponsoring the Operations (Large) category. Tony Wallis Toyota’s UK sales and marketing director, says: “At Toyota Material Handling UK we are dedicated to supporting companies who strive for excellence, and sponsoring an award at the new SHD Logistics Awards is a great way for us to show this support. The awards are a welcome event to the calendar as they celebrate and reward excellence to companies across a number of different industries including retail, manufacturing and logistics. As the global number one materials handling equipment supplier, we support a large number of businesses and see every day the dedication and hard work of the individuals who work within the logistics areas. Our association with SHD and the awards is another step forward in our commitment to support the logistics and supply chain industry with a recognised leader.”

High profile judges

The SHD Logistics Awards will be organised by Informa’s specialised awards division, which has an excellent track record of running highly successful events such as the Lloyds List Awards and the Containerisation International Awards. A roster of high-profile judges has been lined up, the identity of which will be announced in due course.

SHD Editor Peter MacLeod added: “I have lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked whether we would throw our weight behind an industry awards event, and I’ve always said we would only do it if we could carry into it the values that SHD stands for. I’m extremely pleased to say that we have come up with the right concept at the right time with a strong, professional and experienced team behind it. I look forward to bringing news of the judging panel, which will reflect the high level at which the inaugural SHD Awards have been aimed.”

Rob Fisher concluded: “SHD magazine is the UK’s longest established - and best read - logistics publication. Reaching over 70,000 decision-makers, it provides the perfect platform for the awards programme. With its sister show IMHX breaking records in 2013, our reach across the industry will ensure sponsors, entrants and winners will gain significant exposure through their involvement with the SHD Logistics Awards.”

Entries will open in September 2013. Potential sponsors and commercial partners are invited to contact Rob Fisher on Tel: +44 (20) 7017 6986 or rob.fisher@informa.com.
